Jane was born btw 1795-1798 in Kaskaskia, NW Territory (later Illinois), the eldest of four children of Titus Gregg/Gragg and Charlotte Renfro, early settlers of present day Troy, Madison Co, IL. She married Joseph H Ferguson in Madison Co IL on Nov 29 1813. Joseph was born abt 1788 TN or KY & died abt Dec 1839 in Harrison Co TX. Nine of their 11 children were born in IL & MO. Jane was carrying the 10th as they migrated to TX by wagon train; the youngest two were TX natives. Joseph received a league of land or 4428 acres from Empresario David G Burnett upon petition dated Oct 8 1834. The land is under present day Lake Palestine.

Several children married in Harrison Co & moved on to Van Zandt, Erath and Parker Co TX. Two went to NM.

After the untimely and possibly illegal death of her husband Joseph, Jane and son David toiled over the 13 year settlement of his estate which was opened Jan 2 1840 and finally settled Feb 1 1853, involving numerous lawsuits by the brothers of Sam Houston's paramour, Anna Raguet.

Jane and son David moved to Van Zandt County to be closer to the siblings and spent the rest of their lives there.
