Father: George Mumford
Mother: Ruth Mumford
DIED. Bevans--At her late residence on Prospect street, in this village, on Monday evening, February 5th, 1877, Mrs. Elizabeth Bevans, widow of the late Henry Bevans, aged 85 years, 5 months and 11 days.
The deceased was born near Cooperstown, Otsego county, New York, and with her husband, emigrated to Ohio, in 1816, traveling with an ox-team the entire distance, making a settlement in Mohican township then in Wayne county, now a
part of Ashland county. There they remained and witnessed the growth of the new country, until the year 1846, when a large family of children having grown up around them, they removed to Berea, to avail themselves of the educational
opportunities afforded by the opening of "Baldwin Institute," and arrived in time for members of the family to enroll their names at the opening of the first term of that Institution. About four years since, Mr. Bevans died, and now the companion of his life has passed away.
They were both members of the Methodist Episcopal Church, the subject of the present notice having held her membership about forty-five years. Mrs. Bevans was the mother of Mrs. Lyman Baker, Mrs. Fournier and Miss C. Bevans of this place, also Mrs. Porter, who recently resided here, and Mrs. J.B. Johnson, of Michigan.
The funeral was attended this afternoon at the late residence of the deceased and the remains were interred in the village cemetery.
