BLACKSBURG – Pearl Rippy Batchler, 100, of 165 Crescent Circle, died Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Upstate Carolina Medical Center.

Mrs. Batchler was the widow of Millege J. Batchler and daughter of the late Thomas Kendrick Rippy and Augusta Ann Rippy.

Mrs. Batchler is survived by four daughters, Hildred Hannon, Valaree Peterson and Inez Love, all of Blacksburg, and Kathleen Blackwelder of Martinsburg, W.Va.; two sons, Darvee Batchler and Hayward Batchler, both of Blacksburg; a sister, Essie Thompson of Rock Hill; a brother, Wardell Rippy of Blacksburg; 14 grandchildren, one of them being a special granddaughter, Joy Painter; 23 great-grandchildren; and 31 greatgreat grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Oveda Ellis; a sister, Bernola Loflin; and three brothers, Forest Rippy, Earnest Rippy and Floyd Rippy.

Services will be held Saturday, April 3, at 1 p.m. at Shuford-Hatcher Funeral Home, Downtown Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Rayce Wolgemuth. Burial will be in Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery.
