After marriage the couple made their home farming in in Section 7, Carroll Township 6 miles west of Clutier for 37 years.
Bernard started the plumbing business in April of 1977 with the purchase of tools and pipe fittings from Leonard Flynn of rural Toledo upon his retirement. The plumbing business consists of deep well pump work, trenching water lines, repairing field tiles, backhoe service, and general household plumbing. Through the .years, members of his family have also helped with the business at various times.
Irene attended country school in Howard Township, Garwin School, Columbia Township, and Toledo Schools graduating in 1958. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls for two years. She taught school in Reinbeck and Toledo for two years.
They are of the Catholic faith and belong to the Rosary Society, KD Lodge, Farmers Union, Eagles, 4-H Leaders, Beef Producers Association, Pork Producers Association. Bernard was in the Army.
Irene had been a homemaker, farm wife, and bookkeeper for their family business. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She especially enjoyed spending Christmas with her family an attending her children’s and grandchildren’s school and extra-curricular activities.
