Alma Ruth Short, age 78, of West Helena, died Monday, Aug. 7, 2000. She was a retired co-owner of Short's National Fabric center, a member of the Phillips County Chamber of Commerce Welcoming Committee and a member of the West Helena Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Ralph Short, of West Helena; a son, Roy Short, of Olympia, Wash.; a daughter, Sandy Merrell, of St. Louis, Mo.; two brothers, Glenn Merrell, of Forrest City, Curtis Merrell, of Monticello; a sister, Betty Jo Griffith, of Forrest City and three grandchildren. Visitation will be Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2000, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Westbrook Funeral Home in Beebe. Funeral services will be Wednesday, Aug. 9, 2000, at Westbrook Chapel. Burial will be in Sylvania Cemetery under the direction of Westbrook Funeral Home.
