Another Old Timer Passes

James W. Monroe, a long-time resident of Chase and Rice county, died at the county farm last Sunday afternoon about 1:30. He was 82 years at the time of his death and had been in failing health for about a year.

Mr. Monroe was born in Redwing, Minnesota, September 25, 1856, and came to Rice county with his parents in the 70's, , where he grew to manhood, later moving to Springfield, Colorado, where he resided for many years, returning to this community after the death of his wife in 1927.

He is survived by the following close relatives: two sons, Wesley of Forgan, Okla., and Robert of Towanda, Kansas; a daughter, Mr. Lila Mishler of Cherokee, Kansas; two brothers, Charles Monroe of Chase and John Monroe of Washington state; and on sister, Mrs. Ida Saint of Chase.

Funeral Services were held in the Crawford-Miler mortuary Tuesday afternoon in Lyons, with the Rev. Potter of Mitchell in charge of the services. Rev. Potter is a former pastor of the Chase M. E. church of which Mr. Monroe was a member. Burial was in Graceland cemetery, Lyons.
