"DEATH COMES TO EDWIN TOLHURST. Had Been in Oyster Business Fifty Years - Served in Civil War. Edwin Tolhurst, well known in Hartford, who had been engaged in the oyster business for over fifty years, fifteen years of this time being proprietor of the Honiss Oyster House on State street, died yesterday at his home, No. 41 Seymour street, following seven years of ill health. He was born in Broughton parish, County Kent, England, April 8, 1841, a son of Edwin Tolhurst and Mary (Honiss) Tolhurst. The family came to Middletown when Edwin was 9 years old and later came to Hartford, where he began work at Sharp's rifle factory. He enlisted in Company C, Twenty-second Regiment, Connecticut Volunteers, August 22, 1862, and was made a corporal and served until July 7, 1863. Upon returning to Hartford, Mr. Tolhurst resumed work at Sharp's factory . . . From there, Mr. Tolhurst went to A. Thomas Oyster House on State street, which his half-brother, Thomas A. Honiss had bought . . . Besides his wife, he leaves two daughters, Mrs. Hattie A. Buckland of West Hartford, and Miss Edith A. Tolhurst of this city; four grandchildren, Mrs. G. Sherman Ripley and Theodore, George and Nelson Buckland of West Hartford."
