Martha married Miles McDaniel (1783-1838) on 22 September 1814, in Randolph Co. They subsequently moved to Posey Co., Indiana. They appear on the 1830 Indiana census with 4 sons, 3 daughters and a lady between 70 and 80 years of age, presumably Miles' mother. Martha McDaniel appears on the 1850 Black Twp., Posey Co., Indiana census with sons Benton, age 33, and David, age 23, and Caroline, presumably a granddaughter, age 13. Also in the household are two small boys, Walter Platte, age 6, and Miles McDaniel, age 4, perhaps grandsons? Martha is listed in the 1860 Mt. Vernon, Posey Co. census with Caroline and Miles.
Martha died 2 Feb. 1863. Miles is listed in two cemetery books, one gives his birth year as 1782 and one as 1783. Neither of them list Martha as being buried here, but I imagine she would have been.
While the 1830 census suggest Miles & Martha had at least seven children, only five were listed in Miles' estate settlement in 1838/41. Apparently a son born 1821-25, and a daughter born 1826-30, died before their father. The children who survived him were:
John McDaniel (c. 1815), no further information.
Benton B. McDaniel (c.1817-?) m. Nancy Ship in 1850.
Emily E. McDaniel (1819-1888) m. Thomas C. Curtis (1811-1903) in 1848, bur. Black's Cemetery, Posey Co., Indiana.
Eleanor F. (probably Field) McDaniel (c.1823-c.1863) m. William P. Jeffries in 1849.
Dolly Ann McDaniel (c. 1826-1845) m. Agur Platt in 1843, one son Walter Agur Platt (1844-1910). *
David L. McDaniel (1828-1874) m. Electa Ann Reno in 1856.
* Thanks to Sheila Conlin Sosa for the information on Dolly Ann.
