Frances "Fannie" Field was the second daughter, and third of eleven children born to Jeremiah Field (c. 1764-1830) and his wife Eleanor Sherwood (1776-1859), of Randolph County, North Carolina. Her paternal grandparents were Colonel William Field, Jr. and his wife Lydia Elswick, and her maternal grandparents were Daniel Sherwood III and his wife Frances Linthicum.

Frances married Eli Staley, their Randolph County, NC marriage bond dated 7 September 1828. However, the following death notice appeared in the Greensborough (now Greensboro) Patriot newspaper 11 January 1842:

"DIED....In Randolph County, recently, Mrs. Frances Staley, wife of David Staley, and daughter of Jeremy Field, deceased."

I believe her husband was actually Eli Staley who married Rebecca Holden in 1842 and went to Indiana. I am unclear as to whether Fannie and Eli had any children. There may have been a daughter named Rebecca and perhaps others.

The death notice is ambigous as to the date, too... "recently." I assume she died either in December 1841 or Jan. 1842. I will add more information when I find it.
