His parents being Colonel Turner Ashby & Dorothea F. Green, he was an older brother of the famous Confederate Calvary General Turner Ashby, and of C.S.A. Captain Richard Ashby of the Virginia 7th Cavalry.
He married a Moncure, (Fannie) as did 2 of his sisters, Mary and Dora.
He was father to Charles, John, and Moncure.
