JENNIE LEWIS
Funeral services for Mrs. John Lewis who died Thursday night, were held at the family home here Saturday afternoon at 2:00, conducted by Rev. O.P. McKenzie. Burial was made in the La Plata cemetery.
Jennie Belle Barnhill was born near Edina, Missouri on August 8, 1871, a daughter of Samuel and Isabelle Barnhill. She died December 21, 1939, being sixty-eight years, four months and thirteen days of age.
She was married to John Lewis on September 12, 1889. To this union three children were born, Mrs. Goldie Meeks, Mrs. Nora Belle Sacre of La Plata and Mrs. Leta Albers of San Bernadino, California.
Mrs. Meeks preceded her in death twenty years ago.
She is survived by her husband, the two daughters, Mrs. Sacre and Mrs. Albers, five grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Tully, Mrs. Nora Martin and Mrs. Mary Walters, all of Edina and Mrs. Josie Tully of St. Louis.
When in her late twenties she was converted and united with the Hedge City Baptist Church. Later they moved to Colorado to make their home. On returning to La Plata in 1910 she placed her membership in the Baptist Church here. As an untiring worker in the church, she labored with the other faithful ones of her days to promote the welfare of the Master's cause.
Many are the friends who sorrow with those who feel the loss of her going home.
