In memory of my great-grandfather who raised my dad, Eugene W. Meeks, after his mother died of complications of the Spanish Flu in January 1919 (loblar pneumonia).
John Henry's children: Golda Martha (Lewis) Meeks, Nora (Lewis) Sacre and Leta M. (Lewis) Albers Short.
John Henry held the position of City Marshall of La Plata as well as a custodian at La Plata Baptist Church.

John Henry Lewis, eighty-six, who suffered a broken hip a few weeks ago, died Monday evening is a Kirksville hospital.
Funeral services are being conducted today, Thursday, by Rev. Claude Thompson at the Baptist Church. Interment will be in La Plata cemetery.
Mr. Lewis was the son of Henry and Martha Lewis and was born in Knox County on August 12, 1865.
He was married to Jennie Belle Barnhill on September 12, 1889. They were the parents of three children.
His wife and one daughter, Mrs. Goldie Meeks, and seven brothers preceded him in death.
Surviving are two daughters, Mrs. Nora Belle Sacre of La Plata and Mrs. Leta Albers of San Bernardino, California; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. Fannie Saunders of La Plata and Mrs. Jessie Gould of Blue Earth, Minnesota.
Mr. Lewis served a number of years as city marshall of La Plata and was employed by the railroad.
Relatives from away at the funeral this afternoon are two granddaughters, Mrs. Gene Grear and daughter of Lexington, Nebraska and Mrs. Ruth Kapusciak of St. Louis and grandson, Eugene W. Meeks from Kansas City, KS.
