---Mrs. Sylvia (Slaughter) Steele, forty-three, wife of Elmer Steele of the Union Temple community, died in a Kirksville Hospital Sunday morning, March 21, following an illness of two weeks.
---Funeral services were held at the Community Presbyterian Church in La Plata Tuesday afternoon, conducted by Rev. T.W. Jolly, pastor of the First Christian Church in Kirksville. Interment was in La Plata cemetery.
---Mrs. Steele was the daughter of Lowell and Frances Slaughter and was born on a farm west of Gifford April 16, 1904.
---She was united in marriage with Elmer Steele on August 22, 1922 at Kirksville, Missouri. Two children were born to this marriage; one son, Cleo, and one daughter Stella Imogene. She was preceded in death by her son Cleo who died February 3, 1942 at the age of eighteen, and her father, Lowell Slaughter, who died February 8, 1943 at the age of fifty-seven.
---She is survived by her husband and daughter, Imogene (Steele) Sevits of 406 S. Bradford in Kirksville, her mother, Mrs. Frances Slaughter of 601 S. Osteopathy; one sister, Mrs. Stella Gluck of La Plata; one brother, Floyd Slaughter; one nephew, Chester Slaughter and her grandmother, Mrs. Arie Fritz of Los Angeles, California.
---She was a converted in the Christian Church at Mt. Carmel and served as the young people's superintendent of the County Council for a number of years.
---Pallbearers were Oscar Easley, Aurra Easley, Lloyd Hays, Arthur Simler, Everett Noel and Tommy Cole.
