Arlis was born in Red Star, Arkansas, the seventh of eight children of Ransom and Mary Ann Samuels Eaton on April 27, 1938.
His mother and dad, two brothers and one sister preceded him in death.
He is survived by his beloved wife, best friend and caregiver of 48 years, Margie, whom he married on October 6, 1961; two children, Connie Wynn and husband, Dallas and Chandra Beach and husband, Terry; cherished grandchildren, Kellen Harwell, Alyssa Harwell and Ely Wynn. He is also survived by two brothers, Glen Eaton and Lynville Eaton, and two sisters, Velma Laird and Viola McClure, as well as his nieces and nephews.
Arlis faithfully served his country in the U. S. Army, serving in Lebanon and France, 1957-1959.
He was a lifelong resident of Elkins, AR and retired from Standard Register Company after 27 years. He attended Fellowship Bible Church of Northwest Arkansas, when health permitted.
Arlis was an active volunteer, serving the community of Elkins as alderman, planning commission member, volunteer fireman, and mayor of Elkins, for more than 30 years.
He was instrumental in the building of the Elkins Community Center, which is a lasting contribution to the community for which he was passionate.
Services were Tuesday, March 30, at Moore's Chapel, with the Rev. Lynville Eaton and Chaplain Bill Walker officiating. Burial was at the Mount Olive Cemetery.
Pallbearers were: Kellen Harwell, Ron Eaton, Rayburn Eaton, Douglas Burke, Tim Eaton and Greg McClure. Honorary pallbearers will be: Johnny Selph, Otto Moos, Joel Bunch, John Bunch, Jimmy Brink and Joe Fraley.
