He died Thursday at his home, after a year long illness.
He was a foundry worker at the former Frank Foundries, Blackhawk Foundry and Keller Foundry. He later worked in the construction business until illness forced his retirement. Mr. McCoy married Janice Bloom in 1972 in Rock Island.
He served in the Air Force
He was a baptized member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Davenport.
His hobbies included fishing, singing and playing the guitar.

Survivors include his wife; daughters, Patricia (Mrs. Allen) Ferrel and Michele McCoy, both of Davenport; a son, Donald E. Jr., stationed with the Marine Corps in Okinawa, Japan; four grandchildren; his mother, Virginia Mae Burton, Davenport, and sisters, Denise (Mrs. Juan) Valles, Doreen (Mrs. Bryan) May and DaVonna (Mrs. Paul) Manley, and brothers, David, Dale, Darwin and Danny Burton, all of Davenport.
