Mrs. Magdalena Hayes, wife of the late Richard Hayes, died at the home of her dau., Mrs. J.W. Reed, living four miles west of town, Thursday Aug. 17, after a short illness. She was born in PA. March 11, 1820 and came to Iowa with her parents in 1836 and married Richard Hayes in 1843. To them were born eight children, four sons and four daughters. All preceded her in death except two dau. Mrs. Hayes was a member of the Dunkard church and a great bible student, taking her testament to school when a little girl. Mrs. Hayes attained to a ripe old age and lived a useful life. the immediate cause of death was malaria. The funeral service was held Sat. morning. the interment being in the cemetery at this place.
