"Coach Crozier"

NORTH ANDOVER — Howard "Tug" Crozier died in his sleep on Friday, March 19, 2010 at the home of his daughter.

Born in Portland, Maine on June 30, 1920 to Grace G. (Horton) and James B. Crozier, he graduated from Deering High School in 1938. He served in the Aleutian Islands during World War II. During his years in high school and the war, he went undefeated in the boxing ring. He attended Springfield College 1946-1950, graduating with a master's degree in education.

He was a teacher and coach in Farmington, Maine, from 1950-1954 where his teams racked up four championships. In 1954, he began a distinguished career at North Andover. During his tenure as Teacher, Athletic Director and Wrestling Coach, he was recognized for many accomplishments.

North Andover High School was his home away from home. His influence in the lives of countless students, both on and off the mat, are too numerous to count. He truly cared as much about their lives as he did their athletic abilities. In 2006, North Andover honored him by naming the new gymnasium the Howard "Tug" Crozier Field House, an honor that meant more to him than words could express. Coach Crozier will be truly missed by all who knew him.

Tug is survived by three sons, David and wife Mary Helen of Monterey, Calif.; James and wife Diane of Townshend, Vt.; Kevin and wife Tara of Seattle; and daughter, Alice and husband Steve of No. Berwick, Maine. He also leaves behind six grandchildren, Emily, Stephen, Mary Alice, Jesse, Michelle and Hannah; as well as a brother, Philip and wife Nathalie of Buxton, Maine; and many friends and admirers across New England. He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Wilhelmina Wright; and grandson, Casey Crozier. His motto for life was Humor, Music & Exercise, and he enjoyed all three to the fullest.

ARRANGEMENTS: Per his wishes, there will be no funeral or memorial service. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the North Andover Wrestling Fund, TD Bank, 108 Main St., North Andover, MA 01845; or the Alzheimer's Association, P.O. Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011
