THE HENRY BULLETIN, Fri., Jan. 14, 1927, p. 1, col. 2 [edited]. Mrs. Susan Clarke, 89, Confederate soldier's widow, died Dec. 30, at the home of her son, George Clarke, near Spencer. Funeral services were held Jan. 1, and a burial followed at Horsepasture church yard. She was the mother of ten children, six of them survive her: James Walter Clarke of Bassett, John Clarke of Stella, and George Clarke with whom she lived, of Spencer; three daughters, Mrs. W. J. Clarke, Mt. Bethel, Mrs. Charles Merriman, Fieldale and Mrs. Jeff Smith, Moores Mill. Also one brother, John Wells of Whitmell. Another brother, R. C. Wells of Bluefield, W. Va., died two days previous to her death. He wrote his own obituary published in the Henry Bulletin recently.
