Daughter of Ivon Lee Ballard and Emma Catherine Okelberry. Wife of Albert Thomas Banks.

Rhea Catherine Ballard Banks, age 94, passed away at her home October 20, 2008 surrounded by her family. She was born March 5, 1914 in Goshen, Utah to Ivon Lee and Emma Catherine Okelberry Ballard. She had three brothers and three sisters; Sterling, Morgan, Paul, Fern, Beth, and Pearl. She was raised on a farm between Salem and Payson and attended Payson schools.

On March 10, 1940, Rhea married Albert Thomas (A.T.) Banks in the Salt Lake Temple. They lived on a farm in Palmyra, Utah where they raised four children, Glen B. (Jackie Davis), Mesa, Arizona; Helen Banks Robinette (Martin), Glendale, Arizona; Ivan B. (Sandra Bosshardt), Green River, Wyoming; and Lynn B. (Kathryn Koyle), Palmyra, Utah. Following the death of her husband, she served a proselyting mission at the age of 70 to Seattle, Washington.

She was a devoted grandmother to 19 grandchildren; 73 great grandchildren; and 3 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, A.T. Banks; two brothers, Sterling and Morgan; and two sisters, Fern Ballard and Pearl Winnie; and two great grandchildren.

She enjoyed quilting for her family and many others. She always had a homemade cookie for a visitor who stopped to see her.

She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served faithfully and continuously throughout her life. She loved children and devoted most of her church service teaching in the youth organizations. She was a member and lesson leader of The Daughters of Utah Pioneers. Rhea was always young at heart and devoted to family, friends, and church.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Palmyra Ward Chapel, 1866 West 5000 South, Palmyra, Utah. Family and friends may call on Wednesday evening, October 22, 2008 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Walker Mortuary, 187 South Main Street, Spanish Fork, or on Thursday morning at the church from 9:45-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment will be in the Spanish Fork City Cemetery.
