John was the son of Col. Samuel Paige (1729-1800) and Eleanor Stevens (1726-1770), who were married at Salisbury, Massachusetts on 1 January 1749.
His father, Samuel, served in the Revolutionary War at Weare, New Hampshire.
John apparently served as a private soldier in the Revolutionary War as well, because his great-great-great granddaughter, Arvilla Belden Nuzum, applied as a Daughter of the American Revolution based on his service.
John was baptized on 28 September 1755 at Salisbury.
Marriage intentions were issued to John and Hanna Barnard on 10 June 1781/2 at Amesbury, Massachusetts.
John and Hanna removed to Weare, New Hampshire by 1785, where their daughter, Sarah Paige, was born.
