Calvin Travis, 71, of Memphis, Tenn., died Sunday, June 15, 2003, at the Baptist East Hospital in Memphis.
Born July 16, 1925, in Cooter, Mo., he was the son of the late Charles D. Travis and Sally Jane Hinson Travis.
Calvin was united in marriage to Elsie on August 10, 1943, in Blytheville, Ark.
He was an entrepreneur, inventor and fisherman, and a member of the Memphis Bass Club, and spent time on the lakes of Sardis, Horseshoe and Heber Springs.
Mr. Travis leaves his wife, Elsie Travis, of Memphis; One son, Jim Travis and his wife Shirley, of Memphis; One daughter, Jane Sluppick and her husband Saro, of Memphis; One granddaughter, Kallie Sluppick, of Memphis; Two great-grandchildren; Ean Travis and Halle Travis of Memphis; Two brothers: Joe Travis and Frank Travis; One cousin, Bowen Travis; and Two nephews; John T. Campbell and his wife Willie Mae, and Tommy Campbell and his wife Becky. Funeral services for Mr. Travis were held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 18, 2003, at the John W. German Funeral Home Chapel in Steele, Mo, with Rev. John T. Campbell officiating.
Burial was at the Mt. Zion Cemetery in Steele with John W. German Funeral Home of Steele in charge.
