He was the son of Carl C. and Mina Mae Simpson. He graduated with honors from Cisco High School, where he was lead trumpet player. He worked in the banking industry for 30 years in Tyler, Del Rio, Corpus Christi and Houston. Over the past decade, he was an executive in the energy business. He received his business degree from Baylor University in 1994 with cum laude honors.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carl C. Simpson; and brother, Larry Simpson.
Survivors include his wife, Beverly Greer-Simpson of Texarkana; a son, Gary Dean Simpson and wife Corinne of Fort Worth; two daughters, Michele Lynn Gill and husband Kyle of Fort Worth and Laura Gayle Mucciarone and husband Michael of Little Elm; four grandchildren, Brett Peterson, Shayne Simpson, Nathan Simpson and Maya Simpson; his mother, Mina Mae Cox of Graham; and two brothers, Bob Simpson of Fort Worth and Cecil Simpson of New Mexico.
