OBITUARY

"Died ... On the 16th July ... at his residence, four miles west of Connersville, Adam Smelsor, Senr., in the 79th year of his age. Mr. Smelsor was born near Little York, Pennsylvania, Sept 11th, 1773. He was received into communion of the Lutheran Church at the age of 14; about that time he removed with his parents, who settled in Fredericktown, Maryland. At the age of 21, he removed to Caneridge (Bourbon Co) Kentucky; here he was connected with the Lutheran Church, as in former years. In the year 1807 he united with the Presbyterians at Stoneymouth (Bourbon Co) Kentucky. About the year 1812, he was elected Elder, in which capacity he served the Church until the year 1823, when he removed to Fayette County, Indiana.

Mr. Smelsor was a member of the Presbyterian and Lutheran Churches 65 years. The church in Connersville has lost in him an ardent, prayerful, regular, consistent, faithful and liberal Elder.

He was a good man, a man of strong faith, kind feelings, and clear in his views of Scripture truth. He has labored for the cause of Christ ...for good souls. He has gone to his rest and reward in Heaven."
