Robert was raised in Corunna, MI, son of George Albert and Irene Marie (Fitzpatrick) Brown. He graduated from Corunna High School in 1938. He entered the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1942 and served for the duration of WWII in India and on Tinian, Northern Mariana Islands in the Pacific. He was awarded the Soldiers Medal, the highest decoration for non-combat bravery, for the rescue of airmen after the crash of their B-29 bomber "Lady Boomerang", at Piardoba Airfield, India in August of 1944. In November 1949 he married Shirley Rourke of Henderson, MI. They raised four children, George, Mary, Michael & Thomas. He also was the Father of James Gilkins and Rebecca (Sworthwood) Baynham. He enjoyed pheasant hunting with his family and his English Setters. During the 1960s he was Social Services Director for Shiawassee Co., MI & Administrator for the Shiawassee Medical Care Facility (aka Pleasantview). At the time of his death he was Administrator of the Ingham Co. Medical Care Facility, Okemos, MI.
