OLD SOLDIER ANSWERS HIS LAST ROLL CALL - Year 1919
M. M. Burke, a resident of Kent for the past ten years, died on Wednesday of lasts week at the age of 79 years. Deceased was a native of Vermont and was a retired shoe maker. He served during the civil war with gallantry. He leaves a widow, Mrs. Lucinda Burke, one son, Howard, of Casper, Wyoming and three daughters, Mrs. Effie Platt of Sultan, Washington, Mrs. Martha Webber of Seattle and Miss Celia Burke, of Duvall. Funeral services were held at the Chittenden chapel on Saturday, Dr. S. S. Sulliger, assisted by the comrades of the G. A. R., having charge. The remains were interred to the Kent cemetery.

Marcus M. Burk Passes Away at Kent - Was Hero of Civil War. Special to the Post-Intelligencer.

KENT, June 26, 1919 - Marcus M. Burk, a veteran of the civil war and a resident of Kent for the past ten years, died at his home in this city yesterday, after an illness of about two months. He was born in Vermont on February 29, 1840 and served during the war between the states as a member of Company A of the Seventh regiment of Wisconsin volunteers. He fount in a number of campaigns and was wounded in the batter of Wilderness. Mr. Burk was a member of Hiram Burnham Post, G. A. R., and then Ladies' Circle, G. A. R., of Kent. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Lucinda Burk, the couple having celebrated their golden wedding nearly three year ago. The following sons and daughter survive; Howard A. Burk, of Casper, Wyoming; Mrs. Effie Platt, of Sultan; Mrs. Martha Weber, of Seattle, and Miss Celia Burk of Duvall. He leaves six grandchildren and three great grandchildren. The remains are at the Chittenden undertaking establishment waiting funeral arrangements.
