JOHN BARTELME DIES AT HOSPITAL
Cooperstown Man To Be Given Last Rites On Thursday
John Bartelme, Sr., 65, of Cooperstown, a life-long resident of
Manitowoc county, died at St. Vincent’s hospital at Green Bay at
5am today. Mr. Bartelme was well-known throughout the entire
county. He was a prominent member of the Catholic Knights of
Wisconsin and the Modern Woodmen of America. Besides his widow,
the deceased leaves ten children. They are Leo of Bowman, N.D.,
George of Iowa, Benedict of Manitowoc, Eugene at home, John of
Milwaukee, Mrs. Anton Ahern, Maple Grove, Mrs. Louis Kriwanek of
Denmark, Mrs. Ed. Kellner of Denmark, Frances at home and Monica
at Milwaukee. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10am at
St. James church, Cooperstown. The Rev. Bernard Jacobs will
officiate and burial will take place in the adjoining cemetery.

FUNERAL OF JNO. BARTELME ON THURSDAY
Funeral services for the late John Bartelme, well known town of Cooperstown resident who died after an illness of but few hours Sunday will be held from St. James church at Cooperstown Thursday morning at 9 o'clock. Mr. Bartelme was widely known throughout this section as cattle buyer and butcher, having been engaged in that business up to the time of his death.
Suffering from a cold Mr. Bartelme was up and about and attended church services Sunday morning and then visited Green Bay, planning to enter the hospital there. He
returned to his home to complete arrangements and a few hour later at St. Vincent's hospital suffered the attack which caused his demise. Mr. Bartelme's death is attributed to pneumonia induced by influenza and is the first fatality of the flue here.
Mr. Bartelme has been a life long resident of Manitowoc county, having been born at Cooperstown August 9, 1863. He was married in 1887 to Nora Scanlon and is survived by ten children, Mrs. A. Kellner, Mrs. L. Kriwanek, Denmark; Mrs. A. O'Hearn, Maple Grove, John and Miss Monica Bartelme, Milwaukee, George of Sioux City, Ia.,
Leo of Bowman, N.D., Benedict of this city, Eugene and Frances at Cooperstown.
Twelve grandchildren also survive and there is one brother B. Bartelme, Milwaukee and eight sisters, Mrs. F. Hoe, Chicago, Mrs. Peter Nick, Mrs. Nellie Schequine, Green Bay, Mrs. B. Graef, Lena, Mrs. Anna Watermelon, Mrs. Lena Rasmussen, Green Bay,
Mrs. John Zongshiem, Shawano, Mrs. D. Brennan, Wayside.
One of the foremost men of his community, Mr. Bartelme was a director of the Denmark bank, a member of the Holy Name, Catholic Knights and Modern Woodmen societies and was a leader in business affairs at Cooperstown.
