He died at 8:40 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 3, 2010 at Hardin Hills Health Center, Kenton.
He was born Sept. 15, 1918 in Hueysville, Ky., to Georgie and Amanda (Bailey) Hicks and both preceded him in death. He married Alice Johnson on Oct. 14, 1937 and she survives in Kenton.
Also surviving are a son, James I. (Kathy) Hicks of Forest; three daughters, Goldie (Darel) Scott of Forest, Trylbia VonStein of Findlay and Reba (James F.) Long of Alger; a brother, Roger Hicks of Ashtabula; a sister, Bertha Hicks of Willard; a sister-in-law, Trylbia Hicks of Willard; 16 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and several great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sylvia Bailey; a son, Edgbert Hicks; five brothers, James Earl, Chester, Clarence, Ezra and Orville Hicks; and two sisters, Rhoda Ousley and Reba Phillips.
He retired in 1980 after working 36 years for ConRail, where he had worked as a crane operator. He began on the Erie Railroad.
He was a member of the Old Regular Baptist Church of Wyandot, Ohio, and a member of the 3-C.
Memorials may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
