Camille Louise Humes was born Oct 23, 1926. According to the newspaper announcement, her father was away on business and arrived home just in time to head to the hospital for her birth.

"Cam" graduated from St Petersburg High School in 1944 and from the University of Alabama in 1948. At Alabama she was president of her sorority, Alpha Xi Delta. She was a member of Mortar Board honorary. Her degree was in Early Childhood Education within the School of Home Economics.

Upon returning home to St Pete, she taught kindergarten at Lealman in the 1948-49 school year. In November of 1948, she met Whit Davenport on a blind date set up by Whit's sister-in-law. They corresponded and dated during the winter and spring and by May they had set a wedding date in July 1949.

After her marriage, she continued to teach nursery and kindergarten until her final retirement in the 1980's. In her spare time, she was an active member of the AXiD alumnae group in St Petersburg, serving as president for at least one term.

She had three children from 1951 - 1954, eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren (as of 2013).
