Funeral services for Floyd W. Thompson, Collingsworth County school and farm leader, will be held Thursday at 2:30 p.m. at the Samnorwood gymnasium with Rev. Vernon Willard of Mobeetie officiating.
Thompson died at St. Joseph's Hospital Tuesday afternoon after suffering a heart attack at his home in the Lutie community. He was 65.
The body will lie in state at Ellis Funeral Home in Wellington until time for the services.
Thompson was born at Deport January 12, 1886. He had lived in Collingsworth County since 1909.
He had been a leader in school development in the county and at the time of his death he was a member of the county board of trustees. He was one of the group which brought about the consolidation of number of small school districts into the Samnorwood school district about 15 years ago. He was active in farm organizations and was an active member of the Cook Memorial Methodist Church at Samnorwood.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Fred Thompson of Wellington; a daughter, Mrs. E.E. Ames of College Station; two brothers and two sisters, Mrs. Verda Burger of Wellington, Mrs. Jack of Lutie, Howard D. Thompson of Sioux City, Iowa and Frank Thompson of Southgate, California.
