R. B. Haralson, 77, a beloved resident of this county for 41 years, died Tuesday morning, October 1, at 7:30 a.m. at his home in Wellington. Mr. Haralson had been confined to his home since he fell and broke his hip about two yeas ago.
A retired farmer, Mr. Haralson, had lived in Wellington for nearly thirty-five years.
Born in Newton, Mississippi, November 11, 1868, Eli Burgess Haralson was the son of Charity Thompson Haralson and Julius Columbus Haralson, a Confederate veteran. Three years later, the family came west, traveling to Texas in the dead of the winter of 1870-71. As the covered wagon rolled slowly across the miles, rain and deep snow fell, making traveling impossible at times. At the end of a six months journey, they reached Freestone County. After only six months there, the family went to Comanche County.
In 1880, Mr. Haralson moved to Montague County and remained there 18 years. After two years in the Indian Territory, near Ryan, he moved back to Montague County and from there to Hollis, OK in 1901. A year later he filed on a claim in old Greer county, but three years later he sold out and moved to Collingsworth County, settling in the Lillie community. After six years he and his family moved to Wellington.
Mr. Haralson was married to Miss Cora Ellen Brock in Montague County February 3, 1889.
Their first six years in Collingsworth County were spent farming and stock raising. After they moved to Wellington, Mr. Haralson entered the grain and wagon yard business, but continued his farming activities.
Mr. Haralson became a member of the Baptist Church in Montague County in 1883 and lived a devoted Christian life. He always maintained an active interest in public affairs and served as a school trustee at Lillie. He was also school tax assessor and collector at Wellington in 1928 and 1929.
Mr. Haralson is survived by his widow, Mrs. Cora Haralson of
Wellington; two sons and four daughters, Herman Haralson of Texarkana; Julius Haralson of Greenville; Mrs. W. M. Williams, Mrs. Oscar Peeples, Mrs. O. B. Raburn and Mrs. George Clark of Wellington. His eldest son, Percy Haralson, preceded his father in death seven years ago.
Other survivors are four brothers and a sister, Rev. N.B. Haralson of Henrietta, W.G. Haralson of Gruver, J.W. Haralson of Lorenzo, G.T. Haralson of Altus, OK, and Mrs. Maggie Cass of San Diego, CA. Thirty-three grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren also survive.
