New Albany, Miss., June 13, 1884---J. R. Reeves, Mayor and Editor of the Union County "Optic", and Lloyd Ford a good for nothing desperado had an altercation yesterday about the Congressional contest for the Democratic nomination. Revolvers were drawn, and each shot five times. Ford was shot in the breast and killed. One of the bullets from his pistol struck Squire Reeves, the father of J. R. Reeves, inflicting a flesh wound in the leg.
