Jackson Douglas "Dug" Baldwin was the son of Elisha Baldwin and Charity (Bennett) (Baldwin) Bennett of Schuyler County, Missouri.

Dug has the following full-siblings:

William Baldwin 1848-1900
James Wesley "Wes" Baldwin 1849-1921
Elisha Henry "Lan" Baldwin 1852-

Dug's father Elisha was 22 years older than his mother Charity, and Elisha had been married twice before. Dug had two known half-siblings from the first marriage:

William Wilburn Baldwin 1820-1872
Unknown Baldwin 1825-

And, Dug had at least three half-siblings from his father's second marriage to Faithey Connelly, but the names of those children are unknown to this writer. They were born in about 1830 to 1835.

Dug's father was reportedly a wealthy man and a prominent member of the Schuyler County, Missouri, community. It is known that he was a Justice of the Peace and a "principal member of the county court." He owned a large home west of the county seat and kept his gold in a metal box. The family story was told that Elisha liked to get out his metal box and challenge his little boys to try and lift it, knowing they could not.

When Dug's father became ill in the mid 1850s, he suspected his wife Charity was seeing a widower in the community named James Lucas and suspected they had plans to marry after he was dead. He told Charity that he was going to hide his gold where no one could ever find it before he would let her and Jim Lucas enjoy it after he was gone. One day, he came in the house exhausted and fell over a bed, but refused to tell anyone what he had been doing. Charity told her mother and sisters she believed that was the day he buried his gold. He left his sons only a few gold coins from his treasure which he tossed to them, and they fell and rolled on the floor. (This latter story was told to Alta Baldwin, the daughter of Dug's brother, Wes Baldwin.)

Dug's father died when he was very young in 1852. His mother remarried to James Lucas (1804-1900) in 1856. Dug had two half-siblings from this marriage:

Franklin "Frank" Baldwin 1857-1871
Martha Demirus "Mat" (Lucas) Ford 1860-1922

In about 1874, Dug married Malinda M. Cooper. They had the following known children:

Lydia "Liddie" (Baldwin) McClain 1875-1951
Cora (Baldwin) Berry 1879-1954
Jesse "Jes" Baldwin 1885-1952
Esca Baldwin 1888-1955

Dug was a farmer. In 1880, the family was living in Putnam County, Missouri, in 1900 in Prairie Township of Schuyler County, Missouri, and in Fabius Township of Schuyler County in 1910 and 1920. Malinda died in 1927, and in the census of 1930, Dug was living with his daughter Cora (Baldwin) Berry in Prairie Township of Schuyler County.

Dug died in 1932. Missouri Death Certificate 28162.
