Saturday night last about 6 o'clock our city was horrified at the news of the fatal stabbing of Mr. Early Vaughan, a well-known, wealthy citizen, while acting as peacemaker and attempting to separate a white man named Sam Creel and a negro named Elam Miller. The killing was done by a white man named Lee Bishop, who renewed his trouble with one of the colored Miller boys started earlier in the day said to be the result of a crap game, and presumably mistaking Mr. Vaughn for the Miller boy, stabbed him in the back. Mr. Vaughn lived until 11:30 am Sunday but despite all medical aid died. A warrant was issued for Lee Bishop who was placed in jail. At an examining trail held Thursday he was held to the Grand jury without bond. Mr. Vaughn was 46 years and 7 months old. He leaves an aged mother, wife, one dau,, 3 sons and 2 sisters. The funeral services was conducted by Rev. L.B. Hart at the Presbyterian Church of which he became a member years ago in his boyhood, and he was laid to rest in the Greensburg Cem. A very large audience attended his funeral including a number from other cities.
