AUGUSTA - Agnes D. Evans, 86, of Gray Birch Drive and formerly of Newland Avenue, died Sunday, March 7, 2010, at MaineGeneral Rehabilitation and Nursing Care Center, Gray Birch, following a brief illness. She was born in Union on Feb. 23, 1924, a daughter of the late George W. and Clara W. (Dearborn) Day.
Mrs. Evans graduated valedictorian of her class from Union High School in 1942 and from Gates Business College in 1943.
She worked in local radio for more than 40 years.
Mrs. Evans was a member of People United Methodist Church of Union, a 70-year member of the Grange, a member of the Kennebec Historical Society and the A.A.R.P.
She was pre-deceased by her husband, Gregory G. Evans and a brother, Robert W. Day.
Mrs. Evans is survived by a sister, Hazel Ellingwood and her husband Herbert of Satellite Beach, Fla.; a brother, Edrick "Dick" R. Day and his wife Joan of Warren; six sisters-in-law: Patricia Tuttle, Shirley Sinclair, Janice Pushard, Nancy Pare, Judy Labrie and Rhona O'Mara; two brothers-in-law: Ronald and Robert Evans; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews; two great-great nieces and one great-great nephew whom she loved very much as well as many special friends.
Committal prayers will be held at the old Maine Veterans Memorial cemetery, Civic center Drive, Augusta at a later date. (Kennebec Journal 3/8/2010)
