He was born April 1, 1897, in Charleston and had lived in Mississippi County his entire life.
He married the former Miss Grace Carson Sept. 6, 1922.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church here and a veteran of World War I.
He had been a painting contractor until is retirement.
Surviving is his wife; son Gene Howlett; daughters, Mrs. Bill Abbott, Mrs. Henry Renaud and Mrs. Joe Willis Layton; a half brother, Dr. Luke Howlett; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. A daughter and two sisters preceded him in death.
Funeral service will be held Monday at the McMikle Funeral Home here. Burial will be in the IOOF Cemetery.
