PATRICIA "PAT" ELLEN LAYTON, age 80, died Friday, June 21, 2013 at the Charleston Manor.

Born July 26, 1932 in Charleston to the late John Howard and Grace Carson Howlett, she had lived in Charleston most of her life where she was a member of the First Baptist Church and Daughters of the American Revolution. She had been employed with Southwestern Bell Telephone until her retirement in 1972.

On December 31, 1949 she married Joseph Willis Layton, Sr. who preceded her in death on November 4, 1995.

Surviving are one son, Joseph Willis Layton, Jr. of Charleston; one brother, Gene Howlett of South Haven, MS, one sister, Dorothy Howlett Renaud of Charleston; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.

One son, Jon Derrick Layton, and one sister, Byrd Lee Howlett Abbott preceded her in death.

Family and friends will assemble for Graveside Rites at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 27, 2013 at the IOOF.Cemetery in Charleston. Rev. Michael Brewer, pastor of First Baptist Church of Charleston, will officiate.
