Mike served three tours of duty in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star with "V", as well as the Army Commendation Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster and eleven presidential Sports Awards. He also served in Okinawa, Thailand and three years in West Berlin.

Michael Gosnell, 60, of Port Richey, Fla., died Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Gulfside Regional Hospice in New Port Richey. Born in Effingham, IL, he moved to this area 5 years ago from the Woodlands, Texas. He was a retired chief warrant officer 4 in the U.S. Army.

Survivors include his son, Layne M. "Mike" Gosnell of Pensacola, Fla.; daughter, Saundra M. Ligon of Oahu, Hawaii; mother, Avanelle Gosnell of Hidalgo, Ill; brothers, Terry Gosnell of Tampa, Gerry Gosnell of Baylis, Ill., Douglas Gosnell of Broken Arrow, Okla., and Steven Gosnell of Newton, Ill.; sister, Jana Gilmore of Rose Hill, Ill.; and six grandchildren.
