Joseph Balogh

December 13, 1918 — March 29, 2009

Mr. died Sunday, March 29, 2009 in Mountain Home at the age of 90. He was born Friday, December 13, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Gabor and Julia Kortvely Balogh. He married his sweetheart, Marilou Buckles, on January 10, 1953 in Chicago, and they were together 56 years. He worked as a Sales Engineer for Vierling Steel Works for 43 years before retiring in 1979. Joe was a veteran of World War II, serving his country in the U.S. Army as a Staff Sergeant. He was a sports fan with an affection for the White Sox, the Bears, and he enjoyed Indy Car racing. He was a good role model for any young man to have, was firm in his beliefs and loving in the practice, and despite having a tin ear, he enjoyed all kinds of music. Joe and Marilou have lived in Mountain Home since 1990, moving from Riverdale, Illinois. He was a member of American Legion Alley-White Post #52, and was active in his membership at the First Presbyterian Church as long as his health allowed. Survivors: Joe Balogh is survived by his wife, Marilou Balogh; daughters Carol Balogh of Mountain Home, AR and Barbara (Lee) Gustafson of Palos Park, II; son Scott (Janet) Balogh of Delphi, IN; grandsons Dylan Connolly and Erik Gustafson; and his loving dog Cybill. Preceded in Death by: He was preceded in death by his parents; son Kyle; brothers Charles, Stephen, and Gabor; and sisters Mary Marolis and Jewel Moos. Visitation: Visitation will be from 5-8 P.M., Friday, April 3 at Kirby & Family Funeral Home. Funeral: Memorial Services for Joseph "Joe" Balogh of Mountain Home, AR, will be 1:00 p.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at First Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Fred Taylor officiating. Burial: Burial will be in the Glendale Cemetery, Washington, Illinois. Memorials: Memorials may be made to Hospice of the Ozarks or the Humane Society. Additional Notes: Military Honors are by the North Central Arkansas Veterans Council, Alley-White American Legion Post #52 Honor Guard.
