Eaton Hicks was the son of Caleb and Esther (Armsby) Hicks of Massachusetts.
He married Susan Wheeler in about 1831 in Claremont, New Hampshire. Soon afterwards they moved to Montgomery, Indiana, then Sherburne, Illinois and around 1860 went to Momence, Kankakee, Illinois where they stayed the remainder of the lives.
Eaton and Susan had the following children:
1. T. "Polly" Maria Hicks Schenck-Scott-Clark 1832-1907
2. Joseph Chard Hicks 1833-1863 (Union side of the Civil War, death)
3. Catherine Hicks Haslett 1837-1902
4. Rebecca A. Hicks 1841-1859
5. Henry H. Hicks 1843-1904 (Union side of the Civil War)
6. Seldon Anderson Hicks 1846-1925 (Union side of the Civil War)
After Susan's death, Eaton remarried to a Jane, and she has a stone near his stone.
