Veda (Phillips) Black, age 94, of Hillsboro Mo., formerly of Harrison, passed away Sunday, Jan. 17 (2010) in Festus, Mo.
She was born Nov. 27, 1915, at Van Buren and was married to the late Bob Black in 1938. Veda was an accomplished artist and enjoyed giving painting lessons, was active in many Harrison civic organizations and was a 72-year member of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, as well as a member of the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Mary Lou and husband, Paul Cowie of Hillsboro, Mo.; a granddaughter, Anne and husband, Kevin Paulsell of Springfield, Mo.; a grandson, Paul and wife, Christine Cowie of Hillsboro, Mo.; a sister, Louise Boworski of Nashville, Tenn.; eight great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews; and many friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Bob Black; parents, William J. and Susan G. (Stevenson) Phillips; and seven brothers and sisters.
She will be honored at the 11 a.m. service on Sunday, Feb. 14, at Hillsboro United Methodist Church in Hillsboro, Mo. Burial to follow at a later date at Maplewood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Robert D. Brown Funeral Home in Hillsboro, Mo. In lieu of flowers, donations to Hillsboro United Methodist Church are appreciated.
