STERLING - Glenn W. McMurphy, 85, died March 3, 2010, at Rice County District Hospital in Lyons. He was born March 19, 1924, in Sterling to Luther and Rozetta Denbo McMurphy, and a lifelong Sterling resident. He was a retired farmer and stockman, worked at Pratt Sale Barn for 32 years, and meter reader for Ark Valley. He graduated from Sterling High School in 1942. He attended United Methodist Church in Alden and was a member of: Masonic Lodge; Odd Fellows, both of Sterling; and Kansas Livestock Association. On March 19, 1983, he married Darlene Price at Alden.

Survivors: wife of the home; four daughters, Marlene and husband Jerry Legleiter of Sterling, Sondra and husband Ted Mueller of Wichita, Pat and husband Scott Bruning of Panama City Beach, Fla., Cindy and husband Curt Darling of Alden; 23 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by: grandson Michael Darling; granddaughter Amy Bolton; brothers Dewey, Roy, Harlen, Nevin and Marvin; sisters Mabel Humphreys, Myrle Heckle and Hazel Tyler.

Funeral will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Birzer Funeral Home, Sterling, with Pastor Chuck Taylor officiating. Burial in Sterling Community Cemetery. Visitation Friday 2 to 7 p.m. with family present from 5 to 7 p.m., at Birzer Funeral Home. Memorials to Sterling Community Cemetery or Hospice Care of Kansas, both in care of the funeral home.
