Ray W. Lawrence

ALGER - Ray W. Lawrence, 71, of Toledo, a former Alger resident, died at 9 p.m. Friday in Newport Richie Hospital, Newport, Fla. He was in Florida on vacation.

Born Sept. 2, 1900, in Alger, he was the son of Emmitt and Orda Linn Lawrence. He married Marie Biederman Jan. 24, 1946, and she died in August 1970.

Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert (Caroline) Fisher, of Lambertville, Mich.; six grandchildren; four sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Streets and Mrs. Tressie Calvert, both of Alger, Mrs. Geneva Hopkins, of Tekonsha, Mich., and Mrs. Leona Stocker, of Waynesfield; and one brother, Howard Lawrence, of Alger.

A veteran of World War I, he was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member of the Alger Central Methodist Church.

Services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday in Hanson Funeral Home, Alger, Rev. James Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Preston Cemetery, Alger, when the American Legion will conduct a graveside service. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
