Charles had a brother which died at the age of 4. he too is buried in the Albany cemetery.
Charles was born on the Blach ranch. He lived and worked there for Mr. Max Blach until 1924 when he leased part of the ranch. The Caldwells leased the back part. He farmed and leased until the ranch sold in 1944.
Charles was elected Sheriff and served 12 years from January 1941 to January 1953. Charles wife, Gertrude, was experienced cooking for a bunch of cowboys, so cooking for a bunch of prisoners was not a problem. Charles always liked to hunt and fish and he learned taxadermity, so he mounted his own trophies. He had all kinds of animals and birds mounted. They hung in his office. When a drunk saw a large mountain lion with his mouth open, he would sober up fast.
Charles always said he didn't have much money but he had lots of friends. Anyone was always welcome to come in and eat at his table anytime.
Charles married Gertrude Johnson on Dec 6, 1814 in San Augustine, TX. It was reported that Charles H. Arendt from Albany, TX was in east Texas trying to buy lumber for the ranch that he was working on when he met Gertrude.
