Mary G. Altaha
(December 17, 1919 - December 3, 2008)

I know that my Redeemer lives, and that in the end he will stand upon the earth. And after my skin has been destroyed, yet in my flesh I will see God; I myself will see him with my own eyes—I, and not another. How my heart yearns within me! Job 19:25-27

Sgt. Mary G. Altaha, 88 of Cedar Creek Arizona, entered the gates of Heaven to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on December 3, 2008 at Summit Healthcare Regional Medical Center in Show Low.

Mary was born December 17, 1919, in Cedar Creek, AZ, to the late George and Mabel Gordon.

She was raised in upper Cedar Creek and later married Thomas Altaha, the son of R-14. After the loss of her husband in the great World War II in 1945, Mary and her children moved from the Altaha Ranch and settled in what is now the Community of Cedar Creek.

Mary began her career in law enforcement in 1960 as a sergeant with the White Mountain Apache Police Department and retired in 1985 after 35 years of public service. Mary was also a member of the Cedar Creek Assembly of God and served as an Adult Sunday School Teacher for many years. Although Mary spent the remainder of her life at the Infinia Nursing Home, she continued to grow deeply in love with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her and those who called her "Grandma".

Survivors include her children, Laverne Altaha, Delphine Altaha, Helena Altaha, Thomas Altaha Jr., Gertrude Taylor, Patsy (Donny) Clawson, Ralph Massey, and Michael Naranjo. She had many nephews, nieces, grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Mabel Gordon, her husband Thomas Altaha Sr., her children Regina A. Cosen, Harold Patterson, Logan Massey Sr., Minor Massey Sr., and Raymond Massey, her granddaughter Carol J. McClure, and great-granddaughter Nadia I. Tenijieth.

A one night wake will begin at Delphine Altaha's residence (Dry Springs Road, Apache Dawn in Cedar Creek) on Thursday, December 11, 2008 at 10:00 A.M.

Celebration of Life Services will be Friday, December 12, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. at the Cedar Creek Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Alvin Martinez officiating.

Burial will be at the R-14 Ranch Family Plot.
