Helena Altaha, 66, of Cedar Creek entered eternal glory Saturday, Feb. 20, 2010, in Whiteriver.

She was born May 30, 1943, to Thomas Sr. and Mary Altaha at R-14 Ranch in lower Cedar Creek. She was a granddaughter to Wallace Altaha Sr. (R-14). Helena lived with the family on her grandfather's ranch for a couple of years until the death of her father in World War II in 1945. She, along with her mother and siblings, moved to what is now Cedar Creek and she lived all her life in that community.

Helena attended school at the St. Johns Indian school in Laveen. It was there that she learned the importance of faith, religion and love for Jesus Christ. Helena was loved by all her nephews, nieces, grandchildren and was known as "mom" to many of them. Helena's favorite pastimes were cooking, baking, being a fan of Hulk Hogan's wrestling, taking long walks and being with her family. She will always be remembered and greatly missed.

Helena's family includes her son, Marvin Altaha; granddaughter Antoniette Altaha, sisters Laverne Altaha, Delphine Altaha, Gertrude Taylor, and Patsy Clawson; brothers Thomas Altaha, Ralph Massey, Mike Naranjo, sister-in-law Ludy Altaha, brother-in-law Andrew Cosen and Donny Clawson.

She was preceded in death by her father, Thomas Altaha Sr. KIA WWII, her mother, Mary Altaha, brothers: Logan Massey Sr., Minor Massey Sr. and Harold Patterson; sister Regina Cosen; niece Carol Jean McClure, granddaughter Nadia I Tenijieth.

A one night wake will begin at 10 a.m. Feb. 26 at the Altaha Home on East Cosen Road in Cedar Creek. A rosary will be led that evening by Father Ed Fronske. A home funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 27. Burial will be in the Altaha Family Plot of R-14 Cemetery.
