In this picture, taken from the main office block at Thames Ironworks, the 14,850 ton battleship 'Shikishima' is under construction to the east while the 13,150 ton 'Albion' is being laid down on a slip to the west. By the 1890s, the ironworks had five different building slips.

In the Royal Albert Dock September 1909.
At 13,150 tons, the first-class Battleship 'Albion' was one of the largest warships ever built at the Thames Ironworks. She was first commissioned for service in 1901, and served on the China Station until 1905. Her next few years were spent in home waters, and on the outbreak of the First World War she joined the Cape and East Africa Station. In 1915 the 'Albion' and others of the 'Canopus'-class were in the Mediterranean, bombarding Turkish positions on the Dardanelles.
