Area Resident Killed in one-Car Accident

Travis Tompkins, 31, R. 6, Rushville, died in Rush Memorial Hospital Friday night after being injured in a one car accident on Road 3 about 13 miles north of Rushville. He was Rush County's first 1966 traffic fatality.
Mr. Tompkins died about an hour after admittance at the hospital.
He was a farmer, living in northern Rush County and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Rushville.
Survivors include his wife, Opal, and daughter, Kathleen Diane, at home; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Estus Tompkins, Rural Route, Knightstown; two sisters, Mrs. Rena Miller, Louisville, Ky., and Mrs. Mae Cash, Columbus; five brothers, John Tompkins, Rushville; Carlie Tompkins, Kennard; Elbert M. Tompkins, Knightstown; Rufus Tompkins, Kokomo, and James M. Tompkins, Knightstown; five stepchildren, Mrs. Joan Brummet, Chesterfield; Mrs. Dixie Jones, Shelbyville; Mrs. Thomas Jackson, Alexandria; Ronald and Darwin Howard, both at home.
Funeral Services were held Monday at the Butcher Funeral Home in Knightstown with Rev. Delbert Brown of Kennard officiating. Burial was in Center Church cemetery.

Pall bearers were Danny Tompkins, John Roy Tompkins, Edgar Gosser, William Campbell, Norris Campbell, and Shirley Detraz.
