WALKERTON - Robert D. Sailors, 84, of 6 Sycamore Road, Walkerton, IN, passed away in his residence on February 23, 2010, after a short illness. He was a retired lithographer at Service Printers in South Bend for several Years. He was born on Dec. 19, 1925, in LaFountaine, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his wife, B. Marie Sailors in 1979, and by a sister, Ellen Louise Craven, in 2008.
He is survived by two daughters, Janet L. Rankin of South Bend and Mary K. (David) Johnson of Walkerton; two sons, William D. and Michael A. (Karen), both of South Bend; two brothers, James of Indianapolis, IN, and Allen (Bud) of LaFontaine, IN; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandchild.
Mr. Sailors was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran of WW II, serving in the South Pacific. He was a member of the Zouaves Precision Drill Team, Jackson, MI, and American Legion Post 365 in North Liberty which will conduct military graveside services. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 26, 2010, in the A.M. Manuel Funeral Home, North Liberty, officiated by Jan Dimick, pastor of the North Liberty Methodist Church. Burial will be at Westlawn Cemetery, North Liberty. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home.
