Anna Maria Louisa "Louise" Wiebeck was the daughter of Friedrich Wilhelm and Louisa Elisabeth Gottschalk Wiebeck, both immigrants from Germany. She married Thomas Williamson "Will" Gilders, a Canadian, on 12 April 1911 in Toledo, Ohio. He was accidentally electrocuted in 1917, and in 1918, she lost her two-year-old daughter Louise, nicknamed Honey, in the 1918 flu epidemic and almost lost her little boy, William. For three days, Grandma never slept while she nursed various members of her family including her sister and her sister's husband. After the funerals, Grandma rolled up her sleeves and got on with the business of living. She married Charles Marriott, a WWI veteran, on 28 January 1920 and, in addition to her son, William, she had two more sons: James and Jack. She had an eighth grade education and was a forelady at the Gendron Wheel Company and, later, was in charge of the dining room at the Carranour Hunt and Polo Club. She also belonged to the Eastern Stars and owned beautiful formals. Grandma made the best sugar cookies. Miss you, Gram!
