Mrs. John A. Mapes Succumbs Two Days After the Birth of Daughter.
Mr. Dolly May Mapes, aged 32 years, wife of John A. Mapes of 509 West Indiana avenue died at their home at 3 o'clock last night leaving as one of eight children, an infant duaghter, Helen Marie, who was born on Christmas day. A year ago Mrs. Mapes suffered from an attack of smallpox, since which she had not been as strong as formerly, and an affection of the heart partly due to her formerly illness became acute following the birth of her child, causing her death.
Mrs. Mapes, who was born in Vernon county, Wisconsin, was brought to Albion, Ind., in girlhood by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Barhydt, who was living at the place. When on June 4, 1904, she married to Mr. Mapes, the ceremony having been performed in Kendallville. Mrs. Mapes was a member of the Methodist denomination.
Surving Mrs. Mapes besides the husband are the children, Sadie Aline, 14 years old; Floyd Arthur, 12 years old; George Franklin, eight years old; Ethel May, five years old, Earl, four years old; Ruth, three years old; Harley Edward, one year old and the infant Helen Marie, four day old; her mother, Mrs. Ida Freedline of Kendallville; five brothers, George Barhuydt; of Goshen, WIlliam Barhydt of Kendallville, and Henry Barhydt, Delbert and Richard Barhydt of Albion, Ind.; and two sister, Mrs. Korah Windle of Kendallville and Mrs. Andrew Heminger of ? Colo.
